Engineering Manager – Earthworks, Groundworks & Remediation

About the Role
A leading contractor operating across earthworks, ground remediation and civil engineering is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee and develop its engineering and surveying function across multiple projects in South Yorkshire.
This senior position combines technical leadership, digital engineering expertise, and team development. The successful candidate will drive engineering standards, mentor survey and site engineers, and take full ownership of 3D terrain model management, GPS workflows and quality assurance processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Engineer, Survey Manager or Engineering Manager ready to step into a role with real influence and long-term progression.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development

Lead, manage and mentor the engineering and surveying team.

Allocate resources across multiple projects and support delivery teams.

Develop consistent engineering standards, procedures and best practice.

Support the professional development of junior and intermediate engineers.
Technical & Digital Engineering Oversight

Review and approve 3D terrain models, digital surfaces and GPS machine-control files.

Oversee production of survey data, setting-out information and as-built records.

Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to site teams.

Promote and enhance the use of digital engineering tools (TBC, Civil 3D, LSS, n4ce, Leica/Topcon/Trimble systems).
Project Support & Quality Control

Review designs and convert them into usable digital models for cut/fill analysis.

Ensure high standards of accuracy, tolerance control and QA compliance.

Liaise with clients, designers and subcontractors to coordinate survey/engineering information.

Support project teams from pre-construction through to completion.
Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve workflows, efficiency and data management.

Introduce new technologies and methods to enhance engineering performance.

Develop templates, processes and SOPs to create consistency across all projects.
Ideal Candidate Profile

Proven experience as a Senior Engineer, Survey Manager, Digital Engineering Lead or Engineering Manager within:

Earthworks
-
Groundworks
-
Remediation
-
Heavy civils
-
-
Strong technical background in 3D terrain modelling, GPS machine-control and digital workflows.

Proficient in surveying and modelling software such as:
Trimble Business Center (TBC), AutoCAD Civil 3D, LSS, n4ce, Leica/Topcon/Trimble systems. -
Confident leader with strong communication and mentoring skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Excellent understanding of engineering QA, tolerances and data control.

Full UK driving licence and willingness to visit sites across the region.
